ABSTRACT
Climate change has multiple direct and indirect consequences for human health. Heat waves affect health directly and are projected to take an increasing toll in developed and underdeveloped nations. The 2003 summer heatwave in Europe -- an event six standard deviations from the mean -- led to 21-35,000 excess deaths in five nations, extensive wildfires, crop failures, nuclear plant shutdowns and melted 10% of the Alpine glacial mass. This event and Hurricane Katrina in 2005 demonstrate that climate change and its impacts may be surprisingly non-linear. Credits: Speaker:Paul Epstein

You Control Climate Change

The European Commission has launched a campaign to build public awareness of climate change. Using the slogan "You control climate change", the campaign encourages citizens to adopt certain everyday habits to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The campaign which kicked off on 29 May 2006 encourages the public to sort waste, leave the car in the garage, use public transport, not to leave electrical devices switched on, and so on. In short: "turn down, switch off, recycle, walk".

Climate Rescue Station

We(greenpeace) have opened a climate rescue station in Poland on the edge of a vast coal pit mine ahead of UN climate negotiations there this December. We(greenpeace)'re asking Poland along with the rest of the world - to quit coal and save the climate.

Global Climate Change (animation)

Final Sci Vis (scientific visualization) Project for junior year. Each person in the class had to pick a topic in science and make a video on it, so I chose this. I used 3d max for all the animations and edited in Adobe Premier.

Earth is currently in a period of warming. Over the last century, Earth's average temperature rose about 1.1 F (0.6C). In the last two decades, the rate of our world's warming accelerated. Scientists predict that the globe will continue to warm over the course of the 21st century. Is this warming trend a reason for concern? After all, our world has witnessed extreme warm periods before, such as during the time of the dinosaurs. Earth has also seen numerous ice ages on roughly 11,000-year cycles for at least the last million years. So, change is perhaps the only constant in Earth's 4.5-billion-year history.
